Table of Contents ----------------- 1. Introduction 2. Versions Available 3. Licensing 4. Installation Instructions 5. Release History Introduction ------------ What is IMFStats? IMFStats assists you in configuring and monitoring your Microsoft Exchange 2003 Intelligent Mail Filter (IMF) plugin. The IMF scans each message coming in through the SMTP virtual server and assigns it a SPAM Confidence Level (SCL) score of 0-9. In the IMF configuration you have a few settings that you have to modify to declare what you want done with spam. IMFStats will help you analyze the distribution of scores, which is what you need when setting your SCL values. How do I use IMFStats? When starting IMFStats, it will interrogate Active Directory for the list of Exchange 2003 servers, since the IMF only runs on Exchange 2003. Each server returned from AD will be pinged, and if the ping responds, the registry on that system will be interrogated for IMF registry keys. Each server that passes these tests will be added to the Select IMF Server pull down. Once the GUI is completely loaded, select the server you wish to get statistics for. Click the Select button. After several seconds, statistics from the performance counters on the remote server should load. The overall mail statistics and the SCL count for each score will be shown in the left side tables. A graph showing the SCL distribution should be shown on the right. You can display several different graphs. At the bottom, an analysis is displayed. If you do not have enough messages scanned to give an analysis of the results, it will let you know. Since the statistics are stored in the performance monitor, they are reset when you restart the remote system. If enough messages are processed, recommendations on setting your Gateway Blocking Action and Junk Email filter levels are shown. These recommendations are based on the Microsoft formula. Possible Errors If the system cannot contact Active Directory, an error message will be displayed. Also, if a remote system is pingable, but the remote registry is not available, an error will display. If the remote system does not have the performance counters available, the program will seem to hang for a significant amount of time before an error is displayed.
